For almost any conceivable topic there is a blog, YouTube channel, or podcast somewhere focused wholly or at least partially on it. When asking yourself whether you should create a blog, YouTube channel, or podcast, no matter what the topic or the platform, monetizing your creation will always come back to your audience, its size, and its dedication to you.
Questions you should be asking yourself:
- Do you have a topic in mind?
- Do you have a passion for this topic?
- Who is your audience and what is their potential?
- Are you willing to put in hard work and keep a sustained delivery while your audience is basically zero?
- How do you feel about writing a blog, shooting videos for YouTube, or recording audio for podcasts?
- Do you have, or are you willing to learn, the knowledge of how to do this or willing to hire someone?
With a large enough audience, you have the possible goals (but not limited to):
- A published book.
- A documentary.
- Advertisement fees.
- Affiliate sales.
- A ready market for your own product or service.
There are many examples of the above outcomes accomplished repeatedly in different variations.
Building a catalog of great, focused content to both attract and retain an audience will take time. To become a viable business, the bottom line is to use that content to build a list of followers (emails). The big question is, what are you giving your audience that is worth them giving you their email address?
Our Business Journey Shared With You
We here at TheGoodVanLife.com are working to build a community of people whose wish is to travel more freely while supporting themselves on the road, specifically, van dwellers who need to build a mobile income. Our background in business operations, finance, bookkeeping, website development, and SEO tactics makes this a perfect fit for us.
It is interesting when you discover what strengths you have as well as where you need to grow. We have some great talents within us; however, it is an entirely different experience when you are starting with a blank slate.
By keeping an eye on us, seeing for yourself how we evolve, we will serve as a tutorial of an evolving business. We will openly share in our blog what we learn and experience along the way, and what tools and resources we use.
For our subscribers, we will be sharing more specific metrics of our journey. This will include updates on items such as how many subscribers we have, income data from our different affiliate offers, etc.
Where do you begin?
Our posts have been exploring some of the options you may wish to consider as you determine what your business niche/model will be. We are continuing this theme with this post, but we also want to introduce just how important building a subscriber list is to your future.
Had we only known the importance of focusing on list building, it would have given us more insight as we were clarifying our niche focus. To this end, the first course we have offered through our site is “List Building Made Easy”.
